Create a shipment

Updated May 31, 20262 min read

Use this page to create a new Shipment in the Carriyo Dashboard. You can save it as a draft for later or book it immediately with a carrier.

Carriyo supports two shipment directions:

  • forward shipment: outbound, from your shipping location to the customer's address.
  • reverse shipment: inbound, from the customer's address back to your shipping location.

You can create two types of shipments:

  • Normal Shipment: Carriyo books the shipment with the carrier and tracks the airway bill.
  • pre-booked shipment: Carriyo tracks an airway bill you have already booked with the carrier directly.

When you create a shipment, you choose one of two outcomes:

  • Save as draft: all details remain editable. Use this for early visibility before the parcel is ready.
  • Confirm (book): Carriyo calls the carrier immediately. A successful booking produces a booked status and generates your label. A failed booking produces an error status.

Once a shipment is booked, only custom attributes can be changed. All other fields are locked.

Once booked, Carriyo automatically starts tracking the airway bill number with the carrier.

Creating a shipment

1. Navigate to Shipping > Shipments on the Carriyo Dashboard. Click the add icon in the top-right corner. To create a reverse shipment, select Reverse from the dropdown.

The Shipment Details section holds reference numbers, merchant, payment type, and shipment attributes, both custom and native. To configure shipment attributes, see Manage shipment attributes.

The Auto Select (AI Automation) toggle automatically assigns a carrier based on your shipping rules. See Manage shipping rules.

Note: Duplicate shipment reference numbers are not allowed in Carriyo.

The Parcels and Items section captures packaging details for the ordered items. Click Switch to Freight if needed. Use + more options to enter optional fields. If you have more than one item, assign each item to a parcel using + add parcel. Click to remove an item or parcel.

Ship From and Ship To capture pickup and dropoff details. The Ship From field accepts locations you have already created. To manage locations, see Create and manage locations.

All fields marked with an asterisk are required. Enable the Location toggle for B2B shipments.

To schedule collection and delivery, click + add delivery schedule.

If you assign a carrier account manually, click Calculate Cost under the Shipment Cost section after entering all details.

After filling in all details, save as a draft or book the shipment. Booking sends a request to the carrier. Any errors appear immediately. Carrier errors include the carrier name. Errors without a carrier name are Carriyo validation errors.

To fix errors on a shipment, see Edit a shipment.
