Calculate shipment cost

Updated May 31, 20262 min read

Use this page to check the shipping cost for a new or draft Shipment in the Carriyo Dashboard.

Carriyo offers two methods to calculate shipment cost:

  • Calling the carrier API
  • Using a costing profile

Calling the carrier API

Navigate to Carriers > Accounts on the Carriyo Dashboard. Select a carrier account and enable the Carrier Shipping Rates option.

Carriyo calls the carrier's API with all shipment details, weight, volume, number of parcels, delivery type, and so on. The carrier returns the associated costs.

The cost appears on the shipment detail page when you create or edit the shipment. Select the carrier you want to evaluate, go to the Shipment Cost section, and click Calculate (or Recalculate).

The carrier returns its costs:

Costing profile

For carriers that do not support the Carrier Shipping Rates option, or if you prefer not to use the carrier API, use a Carriyo costing profile. Disable the Carrier Shipping Rates option and upload your contract details in the profile instead.

Navigate to Carriers > Costing:

Click the + icon in the top-right corner to create a new costing profile:

Enter a profile name, the default amount, and the carrier accounts it applies to. Make sure the profile is active.

Click + add record to create the rules for the profile:

The Create costing rule page opens. In the top section, enter the rule name and amount. You can restrict the rule to forward shipments, reverse shipments, or both.

Under Conditions, enter the conditions for the rule, delivery type, weight, pickup location, and more.

Under Schedule, set the days, times, or date ranges when the rule applies, for example, specific prices during sales periods or holidays.

Click Save. The costing profile is saved and used to calculate shipment costs.
