Decide and Deliver: Carriyo Expands Into Distributed Order Management and Fulfillment
Every eCommerce order is really two decisions. The first: from where should this order be fulfilled — which location, which inventory, optimized for which business objective? The second: how does it get to the customer — which carrier, which service, at what cost and speed?
For most brands, those two decisions are made by two different systems that barely speak to each other. An order management platform allocates the order, then throws it over a wall — an integration — to a shipping platform that sees only a package and a destination. Everything the first system knew (the customer, the inventory picture, the margin, the promise made at checkout) is lost in the handoff. The allocation is made blind to carrier reality; the shipping decision is made blind to order context. The seam between "order decided" and "shipment created" is where eCommerce operations break — and where brands pay for the most expensive integration in their stack.
Today, that seam disappears. Carriyo now includes Distributed Order Management (DOM) and Fulfillment — extending the platform upstream from shipping orchestration into the order itself. One system now decides and delivers.
What's New
Distributed Order Management brings the order decision layer into Carriyo:
- Multi-location inventory management. A unified view of stock across warehouses, stores, dark stores, and partner locations — every unit visible to every order.
- Inventory reservations. Stock is reserved against incoming orders the moment they are accepted, preventing overselling when the same inventory serves multiple channels and walk-in demand.
- Automatic order allocation. When an order lands, the allocation engine evaluates available inventory, location constraints, and your configured rules to assign it to the optimal fulfillment location — automatically, in real time.
- Business-objective prioritization. Allocation rules are fully customizable and weighted against the objectives that matter to you: minimize shipping cost, maximize delivery speed, reduce split shipments, balance workload across locations, or protect stock for high-value channels. The engine optimizes for your definition of "best," not a hard-coded one.
The Fulfillment App brings execution to every location:
- Pick and pack workflows designed for fulfillment staff and store associates alike — guided, fast, and accurate, with no warehouse expertise required.
- Customer collection management for click-and-collect orders: ready-for-pickup states, customer notifications, and collection confirmation, all in one flow.
Together they support the three fulfillment scenarios modern retail runs on: traditional delivery, click and collect, and PUDO (pick up / drop off via third-party points and lockers).
The Allocation Layer Is the Point
The headline capability here is not another app — it is the decision engine sitting above your network.
Consider what "optimal allocation" actually requires. An order arrives for two items and a Dubai address. Item one is in the central warehouse and two stores; item two is in one of those stores only. Fulfilling from the warehouse means a split shipment and two deliveries. Fulfilling both from the store means same-city dispatch, one parcel, lower cost — but that store is already carrying a heavy pickup queue this afternoon. The right answer depends on inventory, geography, cost, speed, workload, and the promise you made at checkout — simultaneously.
That is a computation, not a judgment call, and it needs to happen automatically on every order, thousands of times a day. Carriyo's DOM makes it with rules you define and weight against your business objectives — and because allocation and shipping share one platform, the engine is not guessing about the delivery leg. It knows the carriers, rates, and services available at each candidate location, because they live in the same system.
This is what separates a unified platform from a bolted-together stack. Standalone DOM platforms are decision engines without execution: they stop at allocation and hand off to a shipping system through a lossy integration. Shipping platforms are execution engines without decisions: they receive shipment requests, not orders, and cannot reason about inventory or location strategy. Carriyo now does both — and eliminates the integration boundary between them entirely. No data handoff, no context loss, no translation layer to build, maintain, and debug when either side changes.
One Engine, Every Fulfillment Path
Because allocation is decoupled from any single fulfillment mode, the same engine orchestrates every path to the customer:
- Traditional delivery. DOM allocates to the optimal warehouse or store; Carriyo's shipping orchestration selects the best of 100+ integrated carriers; the customer gets branded tracking on the outbound (forward) shipment — from checkout to doorstep.
- Click and collect. The order routes to the customer's chosen store, lands in that location's Fulfillment App queue, and moves through pick, pack, ready-for-pickup, and collection confirmation.
- PUDO. For customers who prefer pickup but aren't near your stores, orders route to third-party pickup points and lockers, tracked through to collection.
The demand pattern behind this flexibility is not hypothetical. Click and collect represented 17.5% of US eCommerce during the 2024 holiday season — nearly double its 9.93% full-year share — and 37% of online orders on December 23, after carrier cutoffs expired, per data compiled by Capital One Shopping Research [1]. Customers move fluidly between fulfillment modes; your order management layer has to move with them.

This launch is the layer above it: the intelligence that decides, order by order, which node of that network should act.
Returns Close the Loop
Order management does not end at delivery. When a customer requests a return, Carriyo creates a new reverse (inbound) shipment with full context of the original order — the items, the fulfillment location, the customer, the outbound delivery experience. Reverse logistics runs through the same carrier network and the same tracking layer as the forward flow, and inventory implications flow back into the same stock picture the allocation engine reads. One data model covers the order's entire life, in both directions.
Peak Readiness, Operationalized
On Wednesday we argued that peak season 2026 is won in August — that the brands which dominate Q4 are locking in carrier capacity, diversifying fulfillment paths, and stress-testing operations now [3]. DOM is what that looks like as a system rather than a spreadsheet.
Diversified fulfillment paths only create resilience if something decides, order by order, which path to use — and re-decides when conditions change. When a carrier caps volume on a lane, allocation shifts to locations served by alternatives. When warehouse stock runs down mid-promotion, orders flow to stores that still have units. When shipping cutoffs pass in late December, click and collect keeps converting demand the couriers can no longer promise. Capacity is what you build before peak; orchestration is how you use it during peak. Carriyo now provides both.
