Your Next Customer Is a Machine: Inside Carriyo's Agent-Ready Commerce Stack
On Wednesday we mapped where agentic commerce actually stands: AI influenced $262 billion of online holiday sales [1], AI-referred retail traffic now converts 54% better than every other channel [2], and the buying protocols — ACP, UCP — are consolidating fast. Get one distinction right and the whole picture clarifies. There are two kinds of agents converging on commerce:
- Buying agents, acting for the customer — comparing merchants, evaluating delivery promises, placing orders, chasing updates, initiating returns.
- Operating agents, acting for the merchant — booking shipments, resolving exceptions, tuning rules, watching performance.

For the Buying Agent: A Promise Expressed as Data
The delivery decision an agent makes on a customer's behalf needs exactly what the Carriyo Checkout Options API returns: the delivery options that apply to this basket, each as structured data — a price, a computed delivery promise, and its conditions [3].
The pieces matter individually:
- Merchant-defined options with real conditions. Each option carries a promise, a cost, conditions, and the fulfillment location(s) behind it; options can be geofenced to specific areas and targeted to specific customers [3]. An agent asking "what can you offer this address, for this basket?" gets a precise answer, not a generic table.
- A calculated estimated delivery date. The promise on each option is a computed EDD from Carriyo's prediction engine [3] — not an asserted "3–7 business days" string. That is the difference between a promise an agent can compare and one it must distrust.
- Prices grounded in operations. Delivery fees can be rule-set by the merchant or passed through from live carrier quotes [4] — machine-readable and commercially honest.
- Pickup as a first-class answer. Collection options with eligible pickup locations are part of the same response [4] — the cheapest fulfillment path, made legible to the software doing the choosing.

Keeping the Machine in the Loop After the Order
A buying agent's job doesn't end at purchase — "where is my order?" is now a machine-to-machine question. Two platform properties answer it:
- Canonical tracking status. Carriyo tracks every shipment across 100+ carrier integrations in one unified view, normalizing each carrier's statuses into a canonical status list [3]. Machine-readability isn't a translation layer bolted on top — normalization is how the tracking system works. Any agent (or any system) querying a Carriyo shipment reads one vocabulary, regardless of carrier.
