New Cross-Border Features Explained
Recently we've had a trend of new customers with businesses relying on cross-border shipping.
For high value products with higher margins, cross-border is both feasible and necessary for growth.
To enable our customers to automate cross-border shipping to a new level we have enhanced Carriyo with a few new features.
Shipping entities
Cross-border shipping is complex and usually involves multiple legal entities to build efficiency and compliance with legal requirements.
Merchants shipping globally can now add the following information to their shipments:
- Booking Requester Entity - the legal entity booking the shipment with the delivery company.
- Exporter Entity - the legal entity that is the exporter on record for the transaction.
- Importer Entity - the legal entity that is the importer on record for the transaction.
- Seller Entity - the legal entity which is the seller of the goods being shipped.
- Buyer Entity - the legal entity which is the buyer of the goods being shipped.
- Shipper Entity - the legal entity which is shipping the goods being shipped.
- Receiver Entity - the legal entity which is receiving the goods being shipped.
Carriyo users can now define default values for their shipments via DHL and other international couriers, or define specific values for each shipment.
Export Registration Numbers
Shipping to foreign countries usually requires different types of registration numbers.
An example of this is the EORI number, which is necessary for merchants exporting goods into the European Union.
Carriyo now supports adding registration numbers such as EORI to the entities involved in shipping.
Other examples of supported registration numbers that are sometimes required in different countries:
- Value Added Tax (VAT)
- Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- Goods and Service Tax (GST)
- Social Security Number (SCN)
- Data Universal Numbering System (DUN)
- Federal Tax ID (FED)
- State Tax ID (STA)
- One-Stop Shop (SDT)
Merchants are now able to manage all their registration numbers in Carriyo and make sure they are compliant with local regulations before shipping goods cross-border.
Commercial Invoice Details
Typically, merchants doing cross-border e-Commerce need to present a Commercial Invoice document at customs that allows the local authorities to calculate and apply duties correctly.
Carriyo already supported the definition of Harmonization Tariff Codes (HS Codes), Dangerous Goods and Country of Origin, and the generation of commercial invoices. Now, the platform has been enhanced to allow merchants to customize additional information used by global shipping companies to generate commercial invoices.
Some of the new available fields include:
- Invoice Remarks - allows adding remarks to invoices to let customs officials know about certain details of contents of the shipments.
- Export Reason - allows adding the export reason or purpose which can sometimes impact the eligibility of the shipment for tariff charges.
- Signature Details - allows automating the signature included and required in the commercial invoices.
Insurance
A new feature has been added to allow merchants to define whether the shipment should be insured by the delivery partner or not.
At the moment this feature is enabled with DHL Express, but can be also used with other global carriers offering insurance as part of their offering.
Conclusion
Despite the current international trade environment, eCommerce continues to develop more and more into cross-border trade.
Carriyo continues to develop and release features to support our cross-border eCommerce customers.
If you are an eCommerce company looking to automate the shipping of goods to different countries and looking to improve customer experience, then we have the solution for you.
